Hi Faith,
this picture is interesting and how you use the burned wood and the encaustic. I likes the wood shows between the wax.
Have a nice weekend

Hola,
The wood panel showing through is very effective, less is certainly more here.

Very special result. Isn't it difficult to paint on this kind of wood?
Obviously you keep your eyes and heart open for social and human issues, and you paint about it, I like it.
regards
Frieda

Thanks, respected Frieda. The wood-burning technique is a means for getting my compulsive details done more precisely (and is still "burned in") But I like the wood grain as a component to the design. I use lots of clear medium to thin down the color and consistency of the wax. It allows effects similar to transparent watercolor. I find that the rougher the wood surface, the more tooth to hold on to the wax. I have read that wide temperature changes can cause the wax to separate from the ground- the image can slide right off the wood! My frame maker hates substandard wood panels because he has to work hard to correct the bow; he prefers if I use birch rather than this oak.

Wonderful Peter, that you love your child! I feel sad for the Chinese families who are permitted only one child - but after watching the Beijing scene, I can see the sense!
