I am doing a bookmark swap with my rubber stamping group, and I thought I'd introduce them to the wonderful world of encaustic art. This is the first thing I've uploaded here. I'm very much a beginner, but am having lots of fun.

Well done! Looking forward to seeing more of your work. How do you protect the wax from scratching for a bookmark? I would not have thought the wax sealer was enough.

I am a total novice about this, Anne. I did use a wax sealer, and it never occurred to me that it might not be enough. Since the swap is in an hour and 15 minutes, I'm going to go with them like they are, I'll use one for a while to mark a book and see how it holds up. I wonder how something like crystal lacquer would do. Sounds like it's time for some trial and error. Thanks for bringing this up!

It is a good idea to make bookmarks in encaustic. I´m convinced that the encaustic sealer will bee strong enough.

All the best

Hi Tinnalee, welcome to the site and congrats on your beautiful bookmark!

I see excellent use of colours and the compositional skill of an avid card maker...;-)

Re sealer: I'm not convinced it will hold up against wear and tear and might stain the pages of the book. I remember seeing plastic sleeves in bookmark shape somewhere.

What I did was scanning them and printing off on shiny photo paper. Of course it will loose the charm of the original then...

All the best and looking forward to your next upload,

Thea
