Thought I would post the other image I talked about. Here I created the background first layering Kleenex and wax and using the edge of the round tip for the stylus to score lines through the tissue. I then rubbed oil paint into the waxed tissue. I took my photo that I had softened the edges on my computer and had it copied on regular copy paper. Dipped in clear wax it became translucent. I laid it on the background wax surface and began to heat it with the round flat stylus point till it began to melt into the background. You can now see through the image to see the background and the photo begins to blend into the background and tricks the eye. Just another experiment but fun to see the effect.

Hello John, thanks for the two versions of this image. Actually, I prefer this one, but I did not commission you..so who cares!! The blend of the photo paper into the background is very effective. (you probably do not decorate cakes, but if you place a paper with copied image on top of an iced cake, the paper becomes translucent -because of the grease!-and the image is retained.)Thanks for sharing

Faith

Hi John, your experiments are very interesting, and the results marvellous. It is fascinating what can be done with encaustic.

Thank you for sharing your good ideas with us.

All the best
